the 13th of friday

overall, it was a really good one. finally got my new dishwasher (after 2 weeks of not having one), ran some errands, was given a free iced coffee, ran some errands, finally closed out my storage unit, the tribe won their first game after the all star break, had boston market for dinner, had a good time in hanging out with a friend whom i probably will not see again, and won playing the game of progressive rummy i played tonight. dang, i guess it was a really good day today.

this week, i received a letter in the mail from san diego. a hand written letter from someone i had never met. but he read my question in this month's astronomy magazine. august 2007, ask astro. i just love saying that. so, he read my question and deemed it necessary to write me. why? i still cannot decide. my question was regarding comet wild 2 and the stardust mission. the 'masked man' from san diego wrote two pages front and back in fairly small handwriting about the SETI project and a publication of his in the journal of the british interplanetary society in march 1982. reference numbers were provided so that i could verify his claim. the address is too long to type up, but i would gladly give it up if anyone were interested. but in the four pages, the only connection to me is the u of a, which he mentioned frequently. he (rightfully) respects the u of a for their astronomy department, but none the less is disappointed that they rejected the premise of his way-back-in-the-day publication. he spends most of the letter backing up his premise, a very wordy awkward title.

'I also would like to know if you either do, or do not, share my own personal concern about the possibility of some other hostile nation obtaining very large amount of scientific and technological information, from advanced alien beings, via radio waves from powerful transmitters, and then using it to gain a military advantage over all other nations, here on Earth, including us, which is obviously possible, theoretically.'

people ARE strange. my mom is now worried that a man wearing a tin foil hat will show up at my door. i do not share her fear, but none-the-less, i do not see the need to write him back. a buddy who works at starbucks feels i should write him back. he was intrigued by the letter. he thought the most peculiar aspect of the letter was that it was hand written, not typed. he looked bewildered when i told him i love hand writing letters.
